Preaching Without a Pulpit

Preaching Without a Pulpit

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (ESV) I’m a teacher - by training and by nature. One of my favourite things to do is to facilitate the understanding of concepts, especially when it comes to the truth of God’s Word. This is my happy place. With that, also comes a love for preaching. Whilst I have the occasional honour to preach at my local church, I have a much more important and regular preaching gig - my daily life.  If you’re a follower of Christ, you’ve been called to preach too! Congratulations!! :) And to preach in the places and spaces of your everyday life, like your…

The Good (& Necessary) Fight

The Good (& Necessary) Fight

“You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.” [Galatians 3:1] Paul’s letter to the church in Galatia must have hit hard. These words from their trusted spiritual leader would have been painful to receive, as he calls them out as ‘foolish’ and ‘bewitched’; even accusing them of deserting their faith in the gospel of Christ. Ouch!  But such was Paul’s passion for defending the purity of the gospel.  However much Paul loved the Galatian church, he could not stand by and allow the message of Christ’s life, death and resurrection to be corrupted by their misrepresentation of its truth. And it wasn’t an option to remain silent when he saw his precious brothers and sisters in Christ becoming enslaved by the false teaching of the Judaziers.…

Setback, or Setup?

Setback, or Setup?

#workisworship, career, ekklesia, In practice, teaching
I was speaking with a new friend recently, who, like me, is in business. “Has it been easy?” he asked me, after I shared a little of my career journey.  It felt like a loaded question. Was it even supposed to be easy? The obvious answer was that it has not been easy. But has it been good? Yes, because looking back, I know that the Lord has been in it with me. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose,” is just one of the treasures in God’s word (Rom 8:28) that reminds us of His promises. And as we walk with Him, we experience the truth of those words, too. Jesus…

You Are Perfectly Positioned

You Are Perfectly Positioned

For every 4 characters you read about in the Bible, 3 of them were people who held jobs and roles in the marketplace, in government or the home. Winemakers, midwives, small business owners, prison guards, craftsmen, servants in a household, soldiers, farmers, government officials, harvesters, event managers, advisors to kings… the job titles are vast! And the ways these people served God’s purposes were equally so! Perhaps that has always been obvious to you in your own reading of the Bible, but for me, I somehow had blinders over my eyes for decades. I had this false association that people who did great things for God were always in these ‘set apart for God’ type roles, like John the Baptist, Paul the missionary or Jeremiah the prophet. Deserts, foreign lands and…

Work as Worship: Inside the Vision of the School of Work-Based Ministry

Work as Worship: Inside the Vision of the School of Work-Based Ministry

#workisworship, SCHOOL
When Daniel and his wife started their first business in 1998, they made a simple but profound decision: God would be part of it all. It wasn’t just about doing business ethically or praying before decisions. It was about something deeper—living out their faith in every task, client meeting, and challenge. That decision would become the seed of something much bigger. Fast forward to today, and that seed has grown in many directions—one of which is the School of Work-Based Ministry, a new initiative from Worship.Works designed to activate Christians in their everyday work environments. At the center of this mission is a year-long discipleship journey called the Year of Transformation, equipping believers to bring faith and purpose into their Monday-to-Friday "There’s a growing hunger among God’s people to live…

Where might the Spirit be moving in your workplace?

Where might the Spirit be moving in your workplace?

#workisworship, career, ekklesia, In practice, teaching
“Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit… The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” [John 3:5-8] How wonderfully mysterious is the work of the Holy Spirit! Like the breeze across a field, He is uncontainable. Or a small child who loses their hat to an unexpected gust, He takes us by surprise. It's the Spirit's unpredictability that reminds us of our limitations as created ones and helps foster awe at His Divinity. Unlike the weather forecasts that can get predictions wrong, one thing about the Spirit of God is certain - He is always at work (John 5:17)!! In continuous connection with…

Supporting Mental Health in the Workplace

Supporting Mental Health in the Workplace

#workisworship, ekklesia, In practice
For this year's Mental Health Awareness Week, we have a guest blog post from trained therapist, Molly. Molly helps us think about practical ways we can support people in our workplace by intentionally following the loving and compassionate example of Jesus. As a Christian within the workplace, we all endeavour to reflect and represent Jesus in our everyday routine. We have a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the values, wisdom, and guidance of our faith to colleagues through the way we carry ourselves. But if we want to be used by God to reach others we will need to get up close to them by investing in relationships, which can be difficult if workloads and stress distract us. This is why I believe INTENTIONALITY is key! Most jobs have some form…

Jessica is currently a Worship.Works graduate, and in this article, she shares her reflections about what she has learned through 5 months of experience on the programme. Called For a Purpose For some people, the thought of graduating from university and entering into the workplace is a really exciting prospect. However, for myself, the thought of not knowing what I wanted to do after university filled me with a lot of dread and anxiety.  If you had told me a year ago that I would be working in the pharmaceutical and global healthcare sector, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. After all, I had a degree in Theology not a Bachelor of Science. That being said, I really enjoy the work that I currently do and it goes to show…

2023 TOW Conference – Takeaways That Hit Home

#workisworship, career, ekklesia, Events
A book full of notes, brain full of ideas and heart full of inspiration! The 2023 Transform Our World Global Conference was coming to a close and it had been an incredible experience.  Only 4 days earlier I was standing in the typical English cold and wet at 6:00am Wednesday morning, where it was easy for my mind to wander and dream of the potential learnings, experiences and sun that lay ahead of me at the 2023 TOW conference in Santa Clara, California. My lift arrived and we - Daniel, Hannah and myself - excitedly (me sleepily) discussed what we were hoping to learn from the conference, who we were hoping to speak to and how bad the London traffic would be near Heathrow airport.  Now as I reflect on…

Darkness – it’s just the absence of light!

Darkness – it’s just the absence of light!

#workisworship, career
The room was pitch-black. I was blindly led into the middle of this foreign space and left on my own. My first instinct was to try and make sense of my environment. When I raised my hand in front of my face I couldn’t see it, which kicked my other senses into overdrive! The unfamiliar noises appeared to be boosted on surround sound. But without vision I couldn’t make out my surroundings, which meant I had no clue who or what was around me and I wasn’t able to map out an exit route to safety, should I need it. I had zero ability to control my environment or look after myself, and that’s when the darkness started to feel thick and tangible. At times, I felt like the dark…
