Jessica is currently a Worship.Works graduate, and in this article, she shares her reflections about what she has learned through 5 months of experience on the programme. Called For a Purpose For some people, the thought of graduating from university and entering into the workplace is a really exciting prospect. However, for myself, the thought of not knowing what I wanted to do after university filled me with a lot of dread and anxiety.  If you had told me a year ago that I would be working in the pharmaceutical and global healthcare sector, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. After all, I had a degree in Theology not a Bachelor of Science. That being said, I really enjoy the work that I currently do and it goes to show…

2023 TOW Conference – Takeaways That Hit Home

2023 TOW Conference – Takeaways That Hit Home

#workisworship, career, ekklesia, Events
A book full of notes, brain full of ideas and heart full of inspiration! The 2023 Transform Our World Global Conference was coming to a close and it had been an incredible experience.  Only 4 days earlier I was standing in the typical English cold and wet at 6:00am Wednesday morning, where it was easy for my mind to wander and dream of the potential learnings, experiences and sun that lay ahead of me at the 2023 TOW conference in Santa Clara, California. My lift arrived and we - Daniel, Hannah and myself - excitedly (me sleepily) discussed what we were hoping to learn from the conference, who we were hoping to speak to and how bad the London traffic would be near Heathrow airport.  Now as I reflect on…

Darkness – it’s just the absence of light!

Darkness – it’s just the absence of light!

#workisworship, career
The room was pitch-black. I was blindly led into the middle of this foreign space and left on my own. My first instinct was to try and make sense of my environment. When I raised my hand in front of my face I couldn’t see it, which kicked my other senses into overdrive! The unfamiliar noises appeared to be boosted on surround sound. But without vision I couldn’t make out my surroundings, which meant I had no clue who or what was around me and I wasn’t able to map out an exit route to safety, should I need it. I had zero ability to control my environment or look after myself, and that’s when the darkness started to feel thick and tangible. At times, I felt like the dark…

Congratulations to Our Outgoing (& Outstanding!) W.W Graduates 2022

It’s surreal to think that this time last year, three young women were preparing themselves for their first day of the Worship.Works Christian Graduate Programme:  Figuring out what time they’d leave home to make it to the office early. Picking the perfect outfit for the first day at the new job.  Packing lunch and triple-checking that their morning alarm is set.  Squeezing in a few last-minute texts to family and friends to help calm the nerves as they walk in the front door of the building. (We’ve all been there before!) Now, 12 months later, these same three women are contributing to meetings, organising presentations, facilitating the morning pray-up and creating research that’s making an impact for clients and media. They are confident, skilled, and highly-valued colleagues amongst the wider…

Discovering the Father’s Heart

Discovering the Father’s Heart

I am about 2 years into the journey of fatherhood. (And I recently became a father for the second time!) But when I first came to know that my wife was pregnant with our firstborn, it felt like my soul left my body, to be honest. I mean, I knew I wanted kids, just not at that moment. My wife fully embraced the news but it took me about three days to wrap my head around it because I was overcome with fear. The fear of wondering how I am going to be able to love, raise, and lead this kid in a world that seems to devour us whole. I carried that fear around for the whole 9 months we were pregnant. It slowly made a home in my…

Why be data-driven when you can be insight-driven?

As Christians, we are firstly followers of Christ. Our Lord is meant to be the biggest element of our life. We are to keep Him at the forefront of every aspect of our lives, we are to keep Him at the centre of our thoughts, conversations and interactions. In short, as bearers of His light and word to the world, we are called to dedicate our entire being to Jesus Christ, as an act of Worship. ‘“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts”.’ – Isaiah 55:8-9I recently read an article about being “data-driven” vs “analytics-driven”. The article claimed that…

In short, as bearers of His light and word to the world, we are called to dedicate our entire being to Jesus Christ, as an act of Worship. When I say worship, I don’t necessarily mean the obvious correlation to worship. Worship is more than a song, it’s more than being emotional in the presence of the Lord.It is interesting to notice that in the account of creation in Genesis, God did not create physical temple buildings. Neither did He assign priestly duties…

You are created uniquely and beautifully by a perfect God!

As I journey through life, through the seasons and times, discovering why I was created and for what purpose has become increasingly fundamental. I am constantly asking the question ‘What is my purpose, and am I on the path of fulfilling it?’ Many times over, I am reminded that it is a very hard question to answer without the wisdom and guidance of God. The answer flows from the very heart of the Father and the depths of his love. God has redeemed us, and he desires to call us back to himself, and that actively reflects in how we live our lives, what we are called to do, and how we influence the world for God. The bible says in Genesis: “Then God said, “Let Us make man in…

Am I too small to make a big change?

Am I too small to make a big change?

#workisworship, career, In practice
I frequently find myself seeing people suffering from poverty on the news or around me and feeling utterly helpless. I keep thinking, I so desperately want to bring change into that, but what could I possibly do? Maybe I can buy a meal deal for the homeless man on the corner, but beyond that, I’m not of much use. At Worship. Works, one of our main priorities is to use our work to transform nations, and one of the indicators we use for a transformed nation is the elimination of systemic poverty. At first, that sounded really heavy to me! Surely the work of eliminating poverty could not possibly be achieved by us, and surely little old me had no part to play in such a mammoth goal! So, am…

Lessons learned from job searching

Lessons learned from job searching

#workisworship, career, In practice
For me, the last year was a lesson in patience. I had come to the end of my time as a university student and was looking for a job to start my career – a process that took 11 months and involved many rejected applications, apathetic feelings towards work, and a lot of questioning what my future would look like. During this time, there was a lot God taught me about work, waiting, and his faithfulness, and I thought I’d share some of these lessons. Work is a blessing For most of my life, work was never something that excited me, it was something I dreaded. The idea of 40-hour work weeks, Monday mornings, and having to repay my student loans really didn’t seem all that fun to me; and…
