As I journey through life, through the seasons and times, discovering why I was created and for what purpose has become increasingly fundamental. I am constantly asking the question
‘What is my purpose, and am I on the path of fulfilling it?’
Many times over, I am reminded that it is a very hard question to answer without the wisdom and guidance of God. The answer flows from the very heart of the Father and the depths of his love. God has redeemed us, and he desires to call us back to himself, and that actively reflects in how we live our lives, what we are called to do, and how we influence the world for God.
The bible says in Genesis:
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God, He created him; male and female He created them.”
Genesis 1:26-27
What does it mean to be made in the likeness and image of God?
We are made in the likeness and image of God, so I want you to think about what this means to you?
For me, being made in the likeness and image of God means that I carry God’s exact nature, I am called to be one with him and reflect his divinity. I was created out of love, redeemed, and called to partake in his heavenly goodness. It is also a constant effort to showcase and reflect who God is to the world. I am a child of God, just as my Father is, so am I. I am a conduit of his presence, made complete in Christ to accomplish his plans on earth.
We are to read the scriptures, embrace the truths about who we are in Christ, gain clarity and truly live a life worthy of the calling we have received.
Representing God in the workplace
In my role as a marketplace minister, acknowledging that God is my very source of life and everything I do flows from my relationship with God greatly helps me to accomplish my daily tasks. In Matthew 28 after Jesus Christ was resurrected, he instructed the disciples to spread the gospel to all nations of the world.
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 26:18-20
God has all the authority in heaven, but still wants to partner with us to accomplish his plans on earth. It reiterates the fact that I was created for a purpose and God wants to work through me to bring forth kingdom plans and strategies. That automatically brings forth a new perspective and the light of his word positively encourages me and improves how I perceive myself. Positively thinking that God’s power is at work in my life, and I can do all things which he has called me to do. God strengthens and empowers me to fulfil his purpose on earth and in my organisation. I do not work alone, but I have the host of heaven working alongside me, and I am ready for anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.
Working alongside God means that I am divinely equipped by the Holy Spirit, and I am called to be a display of his excellence and intelligence. I receive boldness, and I am confident in my partnership with him. So even when there are big tasks in front of me, or I doubt my abilities, God reassures me that he is with me every step of the way.
I am chosen without blame before him, he is committed to me and my growth. He knows my gifts, and he has given me the authority to do mighty things, Hallelujah! That fuels me every day, the chance to fulfil God’s purposes in my daily work.
